The thing that people do not understand about acne is the effect it can have on your confidence and self-esteem. Much like being over weight can ne bad for your health, it can also be bad for your mental health. It has also not been totally proven that acne is caused by a persons diet. However it may be possible for certain ingredients in food to aggravate the acne and make it worse. Foods that are high in refined sugar may be a common cause. Even if your acne is not diet related, it doesn’t do your body any harm to cut down on products which are high in refined sugar content or are deep fried. Also drinking more water is good for your overall health and cleanses your body of toxins.

Adult Acne can be caused by an excess of sebum on the skin, which comes from the expansion of oil glands. This excess sebum then gets trapped in hair follicles and clogs up the pores. These clogged pores then allow the growth of bacteria, in particular the growth of propionibacterium acnes which leads to the appearance of acne. The causes of acne are not exactly known and acne can affect different people in different ways.

There have been various suggestions as to the causes of acne, causes include hormonal imbalances, as well as other factors such as diet, stress and vitamin deficiency.

Research has shown that the reduction of sebum and keratin production is linked to the level of vitamin A in a sufferers body. There are a number of natural acne treatments which can be good for you, they come with the added bonus that the risk of side effects is very small in comparision to more orthodox medical products. They may not be as effective quite as quick as regular products but could have a positive effect over a period of time.
